And the verdict is…
Vidin! Not quite what I was hoping for, since I wanted to be near the Greek or Turkish border. Instead I’ll be as far away as possible from there: in the northwest corner of the country, on the Danube bordering Romania and very close to Serbia. I’ll be working at an NGO that does regional development and business consulting. I’ll be involved in labor exchange, local tourism, business incubator, consulting to micro and small companies, and working with a cooperative. It sounds interesting because it’s not completely business-focused. I’m off to Vidin for the next few days to check out my permanent site. Wish me luck!

I think my coworker has the same name… Vidin.. except it’s Vidim. Kinda funny… In anycase, I hope you have fun at the NGO. People I’ve met working at NGOs seem to be “idealisitc”… Might be a NYC UN thing… I dunno…

Hey Jane,
I used to know this really annoying kid at school named Vadim….I hope that the town that you are hitting up is a heck of a lot cooler than he was.
I hope that you are happy and healthy out there. I miss you a ton and can’t believe that you will be missing the Mets winning the World Series at Yankee Stadium this year! I can see it now, Beltran taking Mo deep in the 9th inning Game 7 in the Bronx….brings a tear to my eye.

hey jane! so sorry it took me so long to finally get on your blog and read about your adventures…sounds like you are having an awesome time so far and i’m very jealous. i’m going through this weird phase now where everything in life just seems so pointless to me. maybe i should pack it up and join you. =) as you know i started my new job around the same time you left for bulgaria, and i’ve been so stressed trying to catch up with the brainiacs here…what a complete 180 from the environment i was in before! it’s funny, before i felt stagnant and wanted to be challenged and now that i am, i just want to be lazy and go back to doing what i know. funny how the grass is always greener on the other side no matter what. anyway i miss you lots and am so happy for you that you’ve found something that makes you happy. i hope some of that positivity will rub off on me soon cuz i’m going to have to be put on death-watch soon. =P
btw…i wanted to share something funny with you, mike viola (remember him?) sent me a message via friendster the other day about an informal 10-year dwightie reunion. it was a blast from the past. i thought of you cuz you’re probably the only person that i really cared to stay in touch with for all these years. 10 years! holy crap!
hope to hear from you soon…i’ve only recently started reading blogs, man i really need to catch up with the times eh? =) i’m totally in the wrong industry. let me know if you prefer this over email though, not sure what’s easiest for you.
love, mich

Congratulations on Vidin. I was there once–nice place, but lots of mosquitos! I look forward to reading your impressions of Bulgaria. I was a B10, living in Pazardjik from 2000-2002. Enjoy! (And drink some rakiya for me.)
